BILOXI — Fishermen and others peppered the head of the state Department of Marine Resources with tough questions Wednesday at a meeting on seafood safety.

All Alabama waters previously closed because of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill have been reopened to commercial and recreational fishing. These areas include all Alabama Gulf of Mexico waters out to three miles and the remaining closed waters of Mobile Bay just north of the Fort Morgan Peninsula. In addition to finfish, the area north of Fort Morgan is also open to shrimping and commercial and recreational crab harvesting.

New conservation stamp raises more than $19,000 in its first year for wildlife diversity
COLUMBUS, OHIO—Two separate photo entries of an Eastern amberwing, submitted by wildlife photographer Sharon Cummings, garnered both the winning and first runner up honors in the 2nd annual Ohio Wildlife Legacy Stamp Photo Contest. The winning photo will appear on the 2011 Legacy Stamp, which goes on sale March 1, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Wildlife. Cummings, of Graytown, captured her images in Ottawa County.

PIERRE, S.D. – A law passed by the 2010 Legislature allows many South Dakota landowners to apply for and receive free antlerless deer licenses.
The Game, Fish and Parks Department is offering up to two antlerless deer licenses per qualifying household in West River Deer and East River Deer units that have unsold licenses after the second drawing for each season is completed.

OLYMPIA – The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) is now accepting public comments on digging days, catch limits and other management options for the upcoming razor clam season.
Suggestions for the 2010-11 season, tentatively set to begin in early October, can be sent via email to razorclams@dfw.wa.gov or by Postal Service to: RazorClams, 48 Devonshire Rd., Montesano, WA 98563.

CRAIG, Colo.–The Colorado Wildlife Commission today unanimously approved final regulations and big-game license allocations to provide free licenses to hunt deer, elk and pronghorn to Colorado combat veterans severely wounded in action while deployed overseas since Sept. 11, 2001. These licenses will be available this fall.
