We first stopped on the ” Brevard Reef”, about 10 miles SE of the Port. A few Kingfish were caught there the day before, and I thought it would be a good place to start. We had only 1 strike on the down rigger bait after a while, and the water quality wasn’t that great. I decided to go out to Pelican Flats since the bite there had been good lately. (Read more)

New Jersey trout fishing got off to a slow start this season due to the high water and cold weather. The good news is that there are plenty of trout still in the streams, lakes and ponds that are normally stocked and fewer anglers fishing for them. During the flood stages some of the rivers and streams were not stocked but those same rivers and streams received double the allotment of trout several weeks ago. The cold weather and the high water also kept anglers away so there are more trout available than normal right now.
