When you consider these intertwined relationships it can become difficult to predict the effect on freshwater fish. The landscape that surrounds your favorite fishing spot is designed to act as a slow release system for the precipitation that falls as rain and snow. Most systems work like a giant sponge, adding water in a consistent pattern. When this system breaks down, like areas of heavy deforestation, for example, the result is flashy, dynamic runoff that begins intensely and ends quickly. Surplus Trout Stocked in Kinzua and Youghiogheny Waters

Comments Off on Surplus Trout Stocked in Kinzua and Youghiogheny Waters

Harrisburg, PA – Anglers fishing the Kinzua and Youghiogheny tailraces should find plenty of trout to keep them busy this fall. The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) recently released yearling trout (6-9 inches) in the tailraces from their Pleasant Gap State Fish Hatchery. These fish are intermediate in size compared to a typical fingerling, which are stocked at less than the statewide minimum legal size of 7 inches, and to a typical adult trout, which are stocked at approximately 10-11 inches.

Weather or Not – Here We Fish Again

Comments Off on Weather or Not – Here We Fish Again

Listen to this true fish story. We were in Florida Bay on a hot June afternoon. We were drifting the flats south of Carl Ross Key in about 5 feet of water, catching a few trout and an occasional snapper. The wind was so still, that a good drift was almost impossible. Photo © Ron Brooks
