Vaux’s Swifts: The migration has begun
From late August to early September, swifts gather at migratory roosts—which include chimneys and large hollow trees—before traveling to their winter homes in Central and South America. Look for large chimneys in urban areas to view the fall migration of the Vaux’s Swifts. In Portland, visit Chapman Elementary School. At the Oregon City High School’s large brick chimney, you can see thousands of birds inhabiting a single roost site. In Roseburg, look for evening flight displays especially at Fir Grove Park.
