The catch was too small to keep, but Blackmon wasn’t bothered. He and Carol Johnson, both of Smithfield, almost didn’t make the one-day trip to Bogue Inlet Fishing Pier in Emerald Isle, concerned that Hurricane Irene had destroyed one of their favorite fishing spots.
