A few moments after Richard DeMarte has landed 15-pound jack cravelle, a common fish in the waters off Florida’s east coast, the captain of the boat says to him and his father, “Hey, you want to see something?” Both DeMartes nod, so the captain takes the jack, lays it on the surface of the boat and splits it open with a knife.
