PAUL, Minn.- Governor Tim Pawlenty announced today that more than 51,000 acres of forest – almost 80 square miles – in Itasca and Koochiching counties have been conserved. State and private money totaling $12 million has been used to purchase a working forest conservation easement that precludes development of the property. This is the single largest conservation project in Minnesota in at least a decade. The agreement will protect jobs, preserve wildlife habitat and guarantee public access for outdoor recreation.
