Young artists in grades 4 through 12 are invited to enter the 13th Annual State-Fish Art contest. The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) teams up with Wildlife Forever to hold a contest for students to draw a state fish. State winners are chosen in grades 4-6, grades 7-9, and grades 10-12 for the national contest. Entries must be postmarked by March 31, 2011. Winners will be announced May 1, 2011.

REDDING, Calfornia – Jeff Michels of Lakehead, Calfornia, weighed a five-bass limit totaling 13 pounds, 13 ounces Thursday to lead day one at the EverStart Series on Lake Shasta. After a day that was marred with rain Michels now holds a mere 7 ounce lead going into day two of competition.

On Jan. 17, 2001, Dean Rojas pulled 45 pounds and 2 ounces of bass from Lake Tohopekaliga to set the Bassmaster tournament record for heaviest one-day catch. The record still stands.
Now, almost exactly 10 years later, the ideal fishing conditions Rojas tapped into are brewing again on Toho. Coincidentally, the “perfect storm” is happening just in time for the Jan. 20-22 Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Southern Open out of Kissimmee, Fla., the event that kicks off the 2011 Bassmaster season.
