A program aimed at improving the restoration and management of Great Lakes fish communities is coming to Indiana this spring.
The Great Lakes Mass Marking Program will kick into full swing in mid-March when the Indiana Department of Natural Resources marks nearly 225,000 small chinook salmon scheduled for spring stocking in Lake Michigan. The 2011 marking effort is focusing on chinook salmon to assess natural reproduction levels and provide fishery managers detailed data on survival parameters of each agency’s stockings.

Alexandria, VA – The American Sportfishing Association (ASA) commends the Obama administration for launching the America’s Great Outdoors Initiative (AGO) outlined in the final report, America’s Great Outdoors: A Promise to Future Generations, released this week. The initiative was established by President Obama in April 2010 to develop a 21st century agenda for resource conservation and reconnecting Americans, especially children, to our nation’s outdoors. The report addresses many goals important to the sportfishing industry and the recreational fishing community. ASA submitted extensive comments, many of which are addressed in the final report.

WHAT: Boater Jeremy Wilson of Blacksburg, South Carolina, caught a five-bass limit weighing 21 pounds, 6 ounces Feb. 19 to win $4,359 in the BFL South Carolina Division tournament on Lake Murray. He was fishing mid-lake in six to 12 feet of water using jigs with brown and green pumpkin trailers to haul in his limit.
