“We are looking to anglers for their thoughts on what issues should be addressed when we propose the 2012-2015 fishing regulation changes to the FWP Commission this August,” said Don Skaar, FWP fish management section supervisor.

To address this impending train wreck, today the U.S. Senate’s Commerce Subcommittee on Oceans, Atmosphere, Fisheries and Coast Guard held an oversight hearing regarding the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s National Marine Fisheries Service’s (NOAA Fisheries) management of the nation’s federal marine fisheries. More and more federal marine fisheries are being closed to recreational fishing, including black sea bass in the South Atlantic and gag grouper in the Gulf of Mexico, as a result of amendments made to the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act during its 2006 reauthorization. Key provisions in the reauthorization include measures to end overfishing and set annual catch limits and accountability measures for all stocks by 2011.

(March 8, 2011) – Roger Bump, of Jacksonville, Florida, caught a redfish and a speckled sea trout totaling 52.5 inches in combined length to win the IFA Kayak Fishing Tour Presented by Hobie Fishing event, contested February 27 in Jacksonville. The event, which operated out of Sister’s Creek Marina, was the regular-season opener for the IFA Kayak Tour’s Florida East Coast Division.
