The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries will host three public meetings to present proposed recreational harvest regulations for freshwater game fish on the waters of the Toledo Bend Reservoir, Caddo Lake and Sabine River. The proposed regulations were developed in an effort to establish uniform regulations governing Louisiana and Texas’s bordering waters.

FINDLAY, OH – Frank Kapler, work unit leader of the Willow Point Fisheries Work Unit, retired at the end of January with 34 years of service to the people of the State of Ohio.
Kapler started at the Willard Marsh Work Unit in Huron County. He moved to the Willow Point Work Unit a few years later and became the work unit leader where he stayed until his retirement. He was instrumental in the development and maintenance of the Dempsey, Mazurik, and Portage access sites along Lake Erie. He played a large role in the Musky project, which collected millions of musky eggs for stocking in Ohio reservoirs over the past 30 years. With his retirement he takes with him a vast knowledge of these areas and fisheries management in general.

PRATT – Warming water temperatures and rising rivers have signaled the opening of the Kansas paddlefish season, which runs March 15-May 15 at a number of areas in eastern Kansas. Once water temperatures near 60 degrees, paddlefish make the annual spawning run. Some snagging areas, such as the Neosho River in Chetopa, require a rise in the river level for paddlefish to be present.

According to the DNR Division of Fish and Wildlife (DFW), Sylvan Lake in Rome City and Winona Lake in Warsaw contain two of the highest walleye densities in the region.

Family Learn to Fish Day workshops will be offered on the third Saturday of most months at Fort Harrison State Park in Indianapolis beginning March 19.
The workshops, which run from 9 a.m. to noon, offer families the chance to learn to fish, both in a classroom and while fishing on Delaware Lake, aided by expert instructors. The DNR’s Go FishIN program provides fishing gear and bait. All workshop fishing is catch-and-release.
