The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) on Wednesday approved a rule amendment to establish a two-month closed recreational harvest season for amberjack in Gulf of Mexico state waters that would be consistent with anticipated new rules in Gulf federal waters. Gulf amberjack are considered to be overfished and undergoing overfishing.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) approved rules on Wednesday that will allow only catch-and-release fishing for bonefish, a premier saltwater game fish in Florida. The new rules also establish provisions regarding the possession of bonefish by anglers, and the possession and transport of bonefish during bonefish fishing tournaments.

At the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s (FWC) meeting Wednesday in Havana, two employees received recognition from outside organizations.
Shikar-Safari Club International honored Officer Marc Shea, of Naples, as its Officer of the Year. The Marine Industries Association of Palm Beach County Inc. paid tribute to Pat Harrell, of Tallahassee, with a Beacon of Light award.
