PRICE, UT—Scofield Reservoir is on the verge of losing its ice cap. As of April 3rd, there was three feet of open water that ringed the shoreline. Another patch of open water was observed on the south end. If temperatures continue to climb, the ice could be off before mid-April.

Over the past three years, North Dakota has implemented several new rules intended to reduce the risk of aquatic nuisance species transfer throughout the state.
The most recent of those rules, according to State Game and Fish Department fisheries chief Greg Power, is a requirement that anglers in all cases must now drain their boat’s livewell when leaving a lake or river. Previously, anglers could maintain water in their livewell if they were transporting fish.

Family Learn to Fish workshops will be offered on the third Saturday of most months at Fort Harrison State Park in Indianapolis, beginning April 16.
The workshops, which run from 9 a.m. to noon, offer families the chance to learn to fish, both in a classroom and while fishing on Delaware Lake, aided by expert instructors. The DNR’s Go FishIN program provides fishing gear and bait. All workshop fishing is catch-and-release.

MURRAY, Ky. – The University of Florida team of Jake Gipson and Matthew Wercinski, both of Niceville, Fla., weighed a five-bass limit totaling 14 pounds, 4 ounces Saturday to win their second National Guard FLW College Fishing National Championship title in as many years, a rare feat in any collegiate sport. Their three day total of 15 bass weighing 41-8 on Kentucky Lake gave them a 4-pound, 6-ounce margin of victory over the Louisiana State University-Shreveport team of Zach Caudle, Shreveport, La., and Joe Landry, West Monroe, La.

(April 8, 2011) – The Shakespeare drawing contest registered more than 6000 students in 124 schools in 18 states to compete in the inaugural “Take Your Parent Fishing” drawing contest for middle school students. Spearfish S.D., seventh grader, Kady Defloth won the grand prize, which includes a Shakespeare kayak, life vests, fishing rods, reels, line, bait and fishing tools, totaling $3,000.

MURRAY, Ky. (April 9, 2011) – Spc. Dustin Watkins of Mayfield, Ky., and Spc. Eric Abbott of Columbus, Ky., won the National Guard FLW Soldier Appreciation Tournament held on Kentucky Lake Saturday. The team, fishing with Thomas Frink, Kennesaw State University, caught a three-bass limit for a total of 8 pounds, 6 ounces to take the title and bragging rights amongst their peers.
