The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has successfully completed the first phase of the conversion of the old Twin Spans into artificial reef habitat. Portions of the old bridges were recycled in a unique way to provide continuing service to the public.

LIZELLA, Ga. (April 12, 2011) – Todd Dufour, of Marrero, and Scott Poche, of New Orleans, Louisiana weighed in a two-redfish limit that totaled 17.11 pounds to win the IFA Redfish Tour event at Empire, Louisiana, on April 9. To win the event, which operated out of Delta Marina, the team topped a large field of two-angler teams to take home a new, fully rigged Ranger Banshee Extreme powered by a 60-horsepower, four-stroke Yamaha outboard and equipped with a Power-Pole shallow water anchor, Minn Kota trolling motor, Humminbird electronics, Blue Point Fabrication metal work, Bob’s four-inch Ultra Light Jackplate, an OPTIMA battery and a Loadmaster trailer valued at $30,000.

LIZELLA, Ga. (April 12, 2011) – Norman Walker, of Baker, Louisiana, caught a redfish and speckled sea trout that measured a combined 49.25 inches in length to win the IFA Kayak Fishing Tour Presented by Hobie Fishing event at Empire, Louisiana, on April 12. The event, which operated out of Delta Marina, was the regular-season opener for the IFA Kayak Fishing Tour’s Louisiana Division.

After finishing 20th in the April 6-9 Alabama Charge, Ott DeFoe of Knoxville, Tenn., stayed in front in the 15-rookie race for 2011 Bassmaster Rookie of the Year honors.
DeFoe widened his ROY lead to 120 points over his nearest challenger, now Andy Montgomery of Blacksburg, S.C., who moved up from sixth place to take over the runner-up spot.

The Bassmaster Elite Series field was on Toledo Bend on Monday morning for the first of three days of practice for the TroKar Battle on the Bayou. The April 14-17 event will mark the halfway point in the eight-event regular season, and the halfway point in the 2011 Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Angler of the Year race.

Lane was smiling, but he was obviously disappointed about being the runner-up for the second time this year. He also finished second on Lake Tohopekaliga in January at the Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Southern Open.

LAMAR, Colo. – Spring fishing is beginning to heat up in southeastern Colorado.
“Anglers are getting their gear out to go after crappie, bass, wipers, walleyes, catfish and other warmwater species,” said Jim Ramsay, the Colorado Division of Wildlife aquatic biologist for the lower Arkansas River Basin. “Based on our sampling results and incremental stocking, anglers in the southeast part of the state should be in for a good season.”
