A new boat ramp opens near Wetumpka Saturday, May 7, that will allow better access to the Coosa River. The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division (WFF) secured property from the City of Wetumpka on the west side of the Coosa River in 2008 for the purpose of constructing a new public boat launch. The site is located directly across the river from the existing public boat ramp at Gold Star Park in downtown Wetumpka. To access the new facility, travel west across the Coosa River Bridge and immediately turn left onto Dozier Road. The facility is on the left adjacent to the old Corps of Engineers lock.
