ORLANDO, FL – The defending FLW College Fishing National Champions from the University of Florida, Jake Gipson and Matthew Wercinski, both of Niceville, Florida, hold the lead after day one at the National Guard FLW College Fishing Southeast Division Regional Championship on Lake Monroe with five bass weighing 21 pounds, 5 ounces. The team has a commanding 6 pound, 1 ounce lead over their own school club mates, Dennis Croyle and Travis Gates, going into day two of competition where they are competing for a top prize of $50,000 and qualifying for a shot at the National Championship.

LIZELLA, Ga. – Lee Smith caught a redfish and speckled sea trout totaling 57 inches in combined length to win the IFA Kayak Tour Presented by Hobie Fishing event at Gulf Shores, Ala., on October 17. The event, which operated out of LuLu’s at Home Port Marina, was the final regular-season event for the IFA Kayak Tour’s Gulf Coast Division.

LIZELLA, Ga. – Teammates Tony Jackson and Kelly Causey weighed in a two-redfish limit that totaled 14.58 pounds to win the IFA Redfish Tour event at Gulf Shores, Ala., on October 16. To win the event, the final regular-season tournament for the IFA’s Gulf Coast Division which operated out of LuLu’s at Home Port Marina, Jackson and Causey bested a competitive field to take home a new Ranger Banshee Extreme valued at $30,000.

San Antonio, TX – Reel Recovery, a national non-profit organization serving men with cancer, will be conducting a Texas Fly Fishing Retreat for Men with Cancer at the Joshua Creek Ranch in Boerne, Texas The Retreat will be held November 7-9 and will serve 12-14 men from the area who are in treatment for, or recovery from all forms of cancer.

Recognized as one of the state’s premier experts on Lake Okeechobee ecology, Donald Fox, a biological administrator with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), was named 2010 Fisheries Biologist of the Year by the Southeastern Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies. Fox, who has been with the FWC for nearly 30 years, received the honor last Tuesday at the association’s annual conference in Biloxi, Mississippi.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – National Guard FLW College Fishing is headed to Sam Rayburn Reservoir October 28-30 for the Texas Regional Championship. Twenty pre-qualified collegiate teams will be competing for a top award of $50,000 to be split evenly between the school and bass fishing club.
