SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Hunters are advised that Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) was detected in Virginia in 2009; therefore, special carcass transportation regulations become effective and whole deer harvested in Virginia may not be transported into West Virginia, according to Frank Jezioro, Director of the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (WVDNR). Hunters who harvest deer in Virginia may bring into West Virginia only the meat from which all bones have been removed, the cape, antlers or antlers and skull plate from which all meat or tissue has been removed, cervid canines and finished taxidermy heads.

Alexandria, VA – September 29, 2010 – The sportfishing community is asking the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to rule on the side of scientific fish and wildlife population management and dismiss a petition filed in August by the Center for Biological Diversity and four other groups requesting that the Agency ban the manufacture and sale of lead in fishing tackle under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). Should the EPA rule in favor of the petitioners – the deadline is November 1 – this decision will have a significant, negative impact on recreational anglers and the sportfishing industry. The ruling will create a ban on all lead in fishing tackle, including sinkers, jigs, weighted fly line, and components that contain lead, such as brass and ballast in a wide variety of lures, and other tackle.

NOAA is taking comments prior to its final ruling on the proposed closures contained in amendment 17B. Basically this amendment all but closes the fisheries for deep water grouper and tile fish from 240 feet of water out 200 miles along the south Atlantic coastline.
You can see the bulletin here that has the proposal.
All of this is in addition to Amendment 17A which has already been put into place, closing the season indefinitely on red snapper and putting seasonal closures on grouper and some other bottom species.
If you are a deep water fishermen, and admittedly they are a bit rare in comparison to all other anglers, you need to post your comments to NOAA.
