Annapolis, Md.- Two facilities on the West River have recently joined the ranks of Maryland’s certified Clean Marinas. The Galesville Harbor Yacht Yard and the West River Yacht Harbour Condominium Association, including the West River Fuel Dock, worked simultaneously to meet the award criteria and become certified Clean Marinas. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) oversees the Clean Marina Initiative, which is a voluntary program that promotes and celebrates efforts of marinas, boatyards and yacht clubs to reduce their pollution.

Annapolis, Md.- Recent fish kills at Kerr Reservoir and Briery Lake in Virginia have been linked to largemouth bass virus (LMBV) by Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries biologists. LMBV has not been implicated in fish kills nationally for nearly a decade. However, the Virginia incidents are a reminder that the organism may still pose some risk to largemouth bass populations. LMBV poses no risk to humans.

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks may have found signs of exotic mussels in a routine plankton sample taken in July from the northern end of Flathead Lake near Woods Bay.
Eileen Ryce, FWP’s aquatic invasive species coordinator, said microscopic larvae suspected to be from exotic mussels may be contained in four of 17 plankton samples collected from the 200-square-mile lake between May and August. Samples were sent to three out-of-state laboratories for testing last week.
