LIZELLA, Ga. (November 16, 2010) – Kelly Phillips, of Lakeland, Fla., led wire-to-wire, measuring four fish totaling a combined 125 inches in length to win the first-ever championship tournament for the IFA Kayak Fishing Tour Presented by Hobie on November 13. The event, contested in and around Orange Beach, Ala., which operated out of the Cobalt Restaurant, featured a field of qualifying anglers from each of the six divisions of the IFA Kayak Fishing Tour looking to catch and document the largest redfish and speckled sea trout each day of the two-day catch-photograph-and-release event. Phillips’ combined aggregate score gave him a 22.5-inch margin of victory, bringing him the first championship title for the first-year tour.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission reminds anglers that this fall’s recreational red snapper weekend harvest season in the Gulf of Mexico ends on Nov. 22. Anglers, except for the captain and crew of for-hire vessels, may still keep two red snapper greater than 16 inches total length per person daily this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 19-21.

Fishing equipment stolen

FISHING equipment has been stolen from a garage at a home in Langport. Sometime between 5.15pm on November 7 and 9.05pm on November 8 entry was forced to the garage and two plastic cases containing fishing rods and reels were stolen along with a fishing brolly, a pole in a bag and another rod and reel.
