DNA STUDIES OF HUMANS GIVE HINT WHY HATCHERY FISH ARE FINE

Comments Off on DNA STUDIES OF HUMANS GIVE HINT WHY HATCHERY FISH ARE FINE

Recent studies of the human DNA system have come to an illuminating conclusion: all of us are not only descended from proto-humans who lived in East Africa several million years ago; we may actually all be descended from one mother. Thus does science give, at times, support to the Biblical view of the world. And thus, too, does one science illuminate why another allegedly scientific view of things—that of salmon stock rebuilding—may be faulty.

Winter Bass Patterns

Comments Off on Winter Bass Patterns

Bass fishing this time of year can be real frustrating here in the south. Some warm days make you think the fish should be active but you can get fooled easily. Sometimes it does pay off to go bass fishing in the winter. Whether you catch fish or not it is better than sitting home!

My rule of thumb is if the water is over 50 bass bite pretty good, if it is 45 to 50 you might get a bite or two and if it is under 45 you will get a lot of casting practice without catching much. That only applies to the area I fish in middle Georgia and is my opinion. What do you think?

I had one of my best ever January tournaments this past Sunday, catching a five fish limit weighing 13.63 pounds, anchored by a 5.87 pound largemouth. You can read the play-by-play […]

Cold Weather Devistates Florida’s Fish Population

Comments Off on Cold Weather Devistates Florida’s Fish Population

The two weeks of Arctic cold that gripped Florida and the southeastern US did a lot of damage to fish and marine populations. Several hundred sea turtles, stunned and floating because of the sudden temperature drops were rescued, revived and then released after the water warmed. Thousands of dead fish, including snook, tarpon and bonefish could be seen all along the Florida coast, as far north as the Georgia border.
Two weeks of brutal cold – for Florida that is – had temperatures into the teens for twelve straight nights and freezing temperatures for 12 to 14 hours each day for two weeks. Only in the aftermath has the devastation to marine life become apparent.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission (FWC) has closed snook season until September 1, and tarpon and bonefish until March 31, 2010. Catch and release fishing is still ok, but anglers should be […]
