DAYTON, OHIO – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife announced that another record-setting deer has been harvested in southwestern Ohio. On Saturday, January 30, the 18-point non-typical (non-symmetrical antlered) deer, taken by Brian Stephens on November 30, 2009 with a muzzleloader in Highland County, was officially scored.

For the third time in as many legislative sessions, the Pots off the Reefs bill has been reported successfully out of the NJ Senate Environment and Energy Committee.
Senate Bill number 221 (S 221) introduced by Sen. Sean T. Kean and co-sponsored by Sen. Jeff Van Drew and Sen. Andrew R. Ciesla will now await action by the full Senate which is not likely to come until a companion Assembly bill progresses. That Assembly bill, A 1152, was recently introduced by Assembly representatives David P. Rible and Mary Pat Angelini, and has eight additional co-sponsors. The assembly version of the Pots off the Reefs bill has been referred to the Assembly Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has extended its executive order that temporarily suspends certain saltwater fishing regulations to allow people and local communities to legally dispose of dead fish found in the water and on the shore. This order initially was issued on Jan. 15 in response to numerous reports of dead saltwater fish killed by the recent extended cold-weather period in Florida.

February 1 marks the return of the fishing season schedule for 22 of Alabama’s 23 State-owned public fishing lakes, commonly known as state lakes or county lakes. Madison County Lake will open February 5. Noted for quality fishing for bream, largemouth bass, channel catfish, and crappie (in some lakes), these smaller lakes warm more quickly than larger waters. State lakes also provide excellent bank fishing, pier and boat fishing.
