OLYMPIA – Five dollars doesn’t buy much these days, but at 12 Washington ponds and lakes this spring it will purchase an introduction to what may become a lifetime love affair with sport fishing.
Kids’ Fish-In events begin Saturday, April 10 at Klineline Pond in Vancouver, WA and will continue throughout the state through June 12. The events are open to youth 5 years to 14 years of age. Registration is required, and events fill up quickly, so it’s important to register as early as possible.

SALIDA, Colo. – The Colorado Division of Wildlife will provide a fly fishing class on Sat., April 17, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Salida.
The seminar is geared toward intermediate fly-fisherman and takes place in two sessions – indoor classroom instruction at the Salida DOW office in the morning, followed by “hands-on” fishing instruction on the Arkansas River in the afternoon.

Sacramento, CA — April 6, 2010 — Disappointed by actions taken by the California Fish and Game Commission (FGC) during its March meeting, the Partnership for Sustainable Oceans — a broad group of organizations representing the interests of recreational anglers and boaters in the Marine Life Protection Act (MLPA) process — is calling upon the commission to reverse its current direction and give fair and equal consideration to all four South Coast marine protected areas (MPAs) proposals as originally promised. The Commission will be meeting in Monterey, CA on April 7-8, 2010.

Biologists with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s (FWC) Fish and Wildlife Research Institute and Mote Marine Laboratory continue to gather valuable tarpon information with the help of Florida anglers. By analyzing DNA samples collected by anglers, biologists gain insight into tarpon movement and distribution as well as their ability to withstand fishing pressures.

Twenty-six Free Fishing events were announced today by New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner Pete Grannis. During these specially-designated activities in each DEC region, the agency waives the requirement to purchase a fishing license with the goal of encouraging new interest in fishing and educating the public about New York’s unique natural resources.

EXT GENERATION: Four men ages 18 or 19 entered as first-time pros in this week’s 2010 Bassmaster Central Open tournament are aiming for high finishes.
They are looking to follow in Bradley Roy’s footsteps, who at 19 is the youngest ever to compete in the Bassmaster Elite Series. All four dream of becoming fast achievers at that top level, like 26-year-old Casey Ashley, who in three seasons has racked up a win and three consecutive Bassmaster Classic qualifications.

ATLANTA (April 5, 2010) – The College Bass Tour heads to Alabama’s capital to kick off its 2010 season with the College Bass East Super Regional during the second annual Bite the Tail off of Cancer Crawfish Boil Saturday, April 10-Sunday, April 11. The College Bass tournament gets underway with daily morning launches at 6 a.m. CDT at the Riverwalk Amphitheatre docks and culminates with the afternoon weigh-ins at the College Bass stage at 3 p.m. CDT.

There was plenty of action on Saturday at the Louisiana Saltwater Series Tournament, hosted by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF), at Falgout Canal Marina in Dularge. Participation held strong over the Easter holiday weekend with over 50 individuals taking part in the tournament.
