DENVER, Colo. – The Colorado Division of Wildlife is seeking grant applications to help distribute up to $1.5 million for three types of outdoor recreation activities in Colorado. The Division is offering matching grants for projects in the state that benefit fishing, shooting ranges or motorized boating.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has directed staff to move forward with proposed changes to the state manatee protection rule for Broward County.
The manatee management plan, passed by the FWC in December 2007, provides a schedule for the review of existing manatee protection rules. The first review occurred in Sarasota County in 2009, with a final rule approved in April 2010. A review of Broward County’s rule began in 2009, because it is one of the oldest ones in Florida and new manatee and boating data from recent years in that area is available.

The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission (LWFC) welcomed Billy Broussard of Pecan Island to the seat previously held by Earl King. Governor Bobby Jindal announced the appointment of Broussard in November, replacing Mr. King, who resigned due to health issues. Broussard, a coastal parish resident, will serve as a representative of the commercial fishing and fur industries, as required by statute. He owns and operates Pecan Island Redfish Charters.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) elected Rodney Barreto to serve another term as chairman of the seven-member board.
Barreto, of Miami and Key Largo, was appointed to the FWC by then-Gov. Jeb Bush in 2001 and reappointed by Gov. Charlie Crist in 2007.
