OLYMPIA – The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) is seeking nominations through May 21 for membership on its new Cowlitz River advisory group.
Up to 12 qualified individuals will be chosen to serve on the ad hoc group, which will meet monthly for about a year to develop recommendations for improving conservation and sustainable fishing opportunities on the river.

PRATT — As table fare, walleye are at the top of most anglers’ lists. They are not only tasty, but they grow large enough that a few fish can feed a family. (The state record walleye is more than 13 pounds.) As spring weather warms both water and air, walleye fishing heats up, too. Walleye move over shallow points, flats, and underwater roadbeds to feed in May and early June. While fishing from a boat is the preferred method, walleye can be caught at this time by wading. Look for fish in water 3 to 15 feet deep.

A cooperative program to hook kids and their families on the fun of catfishing was initiated in 2008 by the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Section and West Virginia State Parks and the fun continues this year. The “Catfish in the Parks Program” is intended to provide family-based fishing opportunities at selected state parks.

OLYMPIA-The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) today announced a tentative razor-clam dig scheduled for later this month on several coastal beaches.
A final decision will be made next week after marine toxin tests are run to determine if the clams are safe to eat. If the tests come back as expected, four ocean beaches will open on Saturday, May 15 and two beaches will open the following day. The openings are all on morning low tides. They are:

KREMMLING, Colo. – Colorado Wildlife Commissioners Dorothea Farris and Allan Jones will be holding a public meeting in Kremmling to get local input on wildlife issues. Illini West entered day two of the 2010 IHSA Bass Fishing State Finals in sixth place, but the Chargers hauled in five fish for a total of 16 pounds, 3 ounces on day two, catapulting the squad to the state championship. Illini West bagged the five-fish boat maximum on both days of the competition en route to becoming the state’s second state champion, as the anglers’ day-one total of 14 pounds, 2 ounces gave them a winning two-day total of 30 pounds, 5 ounces.
