OLYMPIA – The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) will accept public comments through Dec. 4 on draft management objectives and alternatives for marine fish fisheries in the western Strait of Juan de Fuca, and has scheduled three meetings this month to discuss the proposals with the public.

The Arizona Game and Fish Department’s Region IV (Yuma) and the Bureau of Land Management’s Yuma Sector celebrated the opening of the Redondo Pond Fishing Pier on August 4. The completion of this enhanced access project now provides enhanced access to stocked fishing opportunities at three locations around Yuma, at Redondo, Fortuna Pond, and at the West Wetlands Park pond.

COLUMBUS, OH – More than 370 permits are available to hunters wishing to hunt ducks and geese from a blind at an Ohio State Park lake this waterfowl hunting season. A lottery drawing for the permits will be held at 17 state parks and two wildlife areas the morning of Saturday, August 21.

Jackson, Wis. – To say that the rules and regulations to qualify for a genuine Guinness World Record are extreme is an understatement of epic proportions. Just ask the Marathon Man himself, Frabill’s Jeff “Kolo” Kolodzinski. “Well let me see… We had to have two individual fish counters with unique tally sheets. Literally, a trained timekeeper had to be on hand. There needed to be two minutes of video evidence for each hour during the 24 hours. Sworn affidavits were required. We even brought in a witness from the Minnesota DNR to check my p’s and q’s.” Whew…

The dog days of August make fishing during the day miserable. After warming the air all summer, the late summer sun seems the hottest from now until the first weeks of September.
The heat forces bass tournaments into the dark hours at this time of year, but the stresses on the bass caught in those tournaments do not diminish just because its night time. Late summer into early fall presents considerable stresses to black bass just trying to survive.
