I’m headed out to chase down some dolphin (mahi mahi) tomorrow. Where I am in North Florida, the Gulfstream runs from 60 to 80 miles offshore, so I have to hope that some stragglers may have followed a school of flying fish in off the stream. We often find them as close in as 10 to 15 miles.
What we will do is run from artificial reef to artificial reef – there’s not much natural live bottom off North Florida until you get about 45 miles out. When we see flying fish kick up and “fly” away from the boat, we put the lines out and troll the area. I’ll be using a Dolphin Jr. lure in a variety of colors. Look for the catch report here, tomorrow night!
