TAVARES, Florida- The Gator Division of the $8 million Walmart Bass Fishing League® will visit the Harris Chain of Lakes in Tavares, Florida, February 14 for the second of five regular-season events. As many as 200 boaters and 200 co-anglers are expected to compete in the tournament, which will award as much as $45,000 in cash, including a top award of $6,000 in the Boater Division.

WASHINGTON – A consortium of America’s most prominent angling businesses and groups spoke as one voice yesterday in a letter to Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, urging prompt review and revision of the federal approach to public-lands minerals leasing and criticizing the inclusion of areas of native trout habitat in an upcoming Colorado energy lease sale. The Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership, a national conservation coalition, led the effort by the companies and organizations, which represent the interests of millions of anglers and the angling industry.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has approved a rule amendment to help reduce the number of traps that can be used in the commercial spiny lobster fishery.
The rule change will end a 5-year moratorium on the reduction of lobster traps in Florida. However, the number of traps will be reduced only when a commercial lobster harvester decides to sell or transfer his FWC-issued trap certificates to someone outside his immediate family. The new rule will allow the harvester to sell or transfer all but 10 percent of those certificates.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) approved a rule on Thursday, Feb. 5, that will establish six regional closed seasons to the harvest of blue crabs with traps. These closures will extend for a period of up to 10 days each to help efforts to identify and retrieve lost and abandoned blue crab traps from Florida waters.
