Meadville, PA – The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) has cancelled today’s scheduled fish stocking of the approved trout waters on Connoquenessing Creek in Butler, PA.
This decision was made after learning of a report yesterday from the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) that found high levels of arsenic in the soil in this area. DEP recommends avoiding areas of exposed soils, including the stream banks, in the area of Father Marinero Park, down to (approximately) Negel’s car wash near the Monroe Street Bridge. DEP does not believe that fish can or will absorb the contaminate in a form harmful to humans. PFBC biologists also indicated that arsenic accumulation in previously stocked trout is not a major concern since they have only been in these waters for a short period of time.
