ALEXANDRIA, VIRGINIA — The Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway Association (AIWA) will examine the importance of the waterway to the entire southeastern U.S. at its annual meeting on November 20 – 21 in Jacksonville, Forida. The meeting, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, will focus on new regional strategies to maintain and promote this vital transportation link.

The Lake Champlain Fish and Wildlife Management Cooperative has announced the availability of a draft Strategic Plan for Lake Champlain Fisheries.
The Strategic Plan, which was prepared by the Cooperative’s Fisheries Technical Committee, provides a framework for implementing the Cooperative’s coordinated fisheries management programs. It outlines fish community goals and objectives and describes the role of each of the agencies.

Annapolis, Maryland – Recognizing the challenges facing Maryland’s commercial fishing industry and the Chesapeake Bay’s blue crab population, earlier this year Governor Martin O’Malley worked with members of the General Assembly to secure $3 million in capital funding for projects to help mitigate watermen’s economic losses while also helping to restore the bay.

New Paris, Indiana and Colchester, Vermont – Starcraft Marine’s pro fisherman Greg Yarbrough and Jeff Manz brought home the top honor at the Cabela’s MWC World Walleye Championship held October 2-4, 2008 at Dundee, Michigan-Detroit River/Lake Erie. The pair edged out the competition with a fourth-day winning weight of 20.9 pounds.

With a Bassmaster Classic qualifying spot in the balance, Kim Bain brushed off her nerves Thursday and did at the Women’s Bassmaster Tour Championship presented by Academy Sports & Outdoors what she had done throughout the regular season. The 28-year-old from Alabaster, Albama, boated a limit weighing 5 pounds, 2 ounces, on Arkansas’ Lake Hamilton, which put her in seventh place at the tournament and helped her maintain the lead in the Toyota Tundra Women’s Bassmaster Tour Angler of the Year standings — at least through Day One.

Twelve qualifying teams competed in this tournament. The Blackfin team led both days. On day one the total of 15.7 pounds kept them in the lead and on day two 14.89 pounds solidified the win. Team Blackfin was not satisfied with just winning the tournament; they also took home the honor of the biggest fish of the tournament – a whopping 8.57 pounds.
