FWP Wardens investigated the killing of a grizzly bear in the North Fork Flathead Drainage north of Camas Bridge on Sunday April 20. A Whitefish hunter contacted FWP through TIP-MONT stating he may have shot a grizzly bear thinking it was a black bear. Game Wardens Chris Crane, Matt Heaton, and Perry Brown investigated the incident and confirmed the bear was an older adult male grizzly.

BILLINGS — One weeklong bowhunting class and two special weekend classes remain on the schedule for Yellowstone County this spring and summer.
Registration for the weeklong class is at 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 5, at the Billings Rod and Gun Club, just west of the Billings airport. The class runs from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, May 12-16 at the Billings Rod and Gun Club with a field day from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 17.

USDA Wildlife Services killed one wolf on April 18 th and another wolf on April 21st. The control action is now complete.

BILLINGS — Hatching brown trout in the Montana stretch of the Bighorn River got a two-week reprieve Tuesday when federal water managers agreed to stabilize flows from Yellowtail Dam.
As the result of a conference call Tuesday between Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks, the federal Bureau of Reclamation and recreation interest from Montana and Wyoming, the federal dam managers agreed to continue releases from Yellowtail Dam into the Bighorn River at 1,900 cubic feet per second (cfs).

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Region 3 will auction non-perishable wildlife parts, including trophy mounts in Bozeman on Saturday, April 26, with proceeds deposited back into the state FWP account. Items will be auctioned to the highest bidder and include deer and elk antlers, bighorn sheep heads, a black bear hide, and other miscellaneous hides. These items are from confiscations in past criminal cases, road kills, management kills, or parts found in the wild. The auction will be held at the Region 3 headquarters (1400 S. 19 th Avenue) in the garage bay.

Confirmed Livestock Depredations in Gravelly Mountains

Two domestic calves were confirmed killed by wolves on private land in the Gravelly Mountains. USDA Wildlife Services investigated and confirmed the depredations on Apr. 16.
FWP officials believe that six wolves from an unnamed pack were involved in the incident.
