ThePennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) has re-opened its FrankfordArsenal Access Area in Philadelphia County. The site had been closed for the winter since late fall.
On a temporary basis, Frankford Arsenal will be open for public fishing and boating use from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.The PFBC anticipates resuming normal hours of operation sometime in early spring, depending on the weather.

Chief Logan Lodge, located one mile off US 119 between Logan and Chapmanville in Logan County, is offering an “Irish Spring Getaway Package.†This getaway includes an overnight stay in the new hotel facility and dinner for two at Chief Logan Restaurant. It is available any night from March 9 through March 24. Front Desk Supervisor Melissa Brown explains it is a “saving of the greenâ€â€™ and a “great time of the year to shake off spring fever and visit the lodge and enjoy great evening meal in the restaurant.†Brown also explained that Leprechauns are also known for mischief and guests may find a St. Patrick’s treat in their rooms and a reminder of St. Patrick’s Day. Brown also promised that the treat is not a Blarney Stone.’

The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources has announced the winners of the 2006 West Virginia Big Buck Contest, according to Gene Thorn, Chairman of the WV Big Buck Contest Review Committee. The contest is cosponsored by the Division of Natural Resources, the Izaak Walton League of West Virginia, and the West Virginia Bowhunters Association to recognize sportsmen who take an extraordinarily big antlered buck in West Virginia. This past year, 227 hunters had their deer antlers scored at one of the six DNR District Offices, Field Offices, or the WV Hunting and Fishing Show in Charleston. Hunters who participated in the 2006 Big Buck Contest took 62 big bucks with gun or bow that met the minimum score requirements. Participants were required to show a Game Check Tag and sign a Fair Chase Statement, and they were also approved by the WV Big Buck Contest Review Committee.
