Approximately 50,000 catchable-size (10-inch) rainbow trout died at the Colorado Division of Wildlife’s Durango hatchery on Sunday evening after a seasonal worker forgot to re-open a water valve that had been closed temporarily during routine cleaning operations. Permanent hatchery personnel discovered the closed valve early Monday morning and were able to restore fresh water flows and prevent a total loss of the catchable-size rainbows at the hatchery facility.

An amazing sight

Yesterday while waiting at the Thomaston public landing for my afternoon striper fishing party I saw something that I had only seen once before. An osprey dove and successfully caught a herring. While he was flying off with his prize an eagle appeared and began to harass the osprey. (Read more)

The NJ DEP Division of Fish and Wildlife conducts a series of workshops for those interested in becoming involved in wildlife-related activities or improving and expanding their outdoors skills. Known as the New Jersey Outdoors Program, workshops are offered to families as well as individuals, at little or no cost (there is a $15 registration fee, refundable upon arrival for a workshop).
