Incidental snagging of paddlefish by anglers fishing the Missouri River in the Bismarck-Mandan area is causing concern among North Dakota Game and Fish Department biologists.
Scott Gangl, fisheries management section leader, reminds anglers that there is a proper technique for releasing these unique fish. “With the amount of boat and angler traffic in this area, we get a few reports of unintentional snagging every year,” he said. “It does happen, we just want to make sure anglers release them immediately, and unharmed.”

CONCORD, N.H. — To protect the public from the possible consumption of contaminated shellfish, officials from the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services and the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department have closed the Atlantic coastal waters to the taking of shellfish until further notice. This action is in response to elevated levels of Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning or PSP, commonly known as “red tide,” detected in blue mussels collected from the Isles of Shoals and from Hampton/Seabrook Harbor.

Starting May 30, the City of Tucson began a special water treatment procedure for Lakeside Lake as part of a program to improve water quality in the lake and maintain environmental standards. Lake conditions have already been greatly improved since the installation of the state-of-the-art aeration system five years ago.

Two more catfish stockings are scheduled during the spring catfish stocking season. Stockings will take place the weeks of June 11-16 and June 25-30. Over 7,000 catfish are stocked every other week to all 19 Urban Fishing Program waters in the Phoenix and Tucson areas.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is seeking public comments on its draft forest classification and motor vehicle route designation plan for the Sturgeon River State Forest.
The agency is also seeking comments on allowing motorized use on a portion of the Taconite Trail. A public meeting will be on Tuesday, July 10, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 pm, at Ironworld Discovery Center, 801 Southwest Highway 169, Chisholm.

A search for drugs recently uncovered a freezer full of illegal fish in a Waite Park residence.
On April 13, the Central Minnesota Drug Task Force executed a search warrant for drugs when they discovered the fish. A count by state conservation officers found Jackson Ho, 43, and Vinh Van Ho, 39, both of Waite Park, possessed a total 207 sunfish, ten crappies, and nine bass over the legal limit. Jackson Ho and Vinh Van Ho told conservation officers that neighbors had brought them the fish.
