The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has hired a veteran wildlife biologist from Arizona to coordinate the state’s wolf management plan.
Daniel Stark, who worked on the Mexican gray wolf recovery project in Arizona, will oversee the ongoing transition of wolf management from the federal government to the Minnesota DNR.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is asking bear hunters not to shoot radio-collared bears.
The DNR is currently monitoring about 40 radio-collared bears, according to DNR bear research biologist Dave Garshelis. Most reside in the area of the Chippewa National Forest, Camp Ripley Military Reservation, and near Voyageurs National Park. However, Garshelis indicated that during the fall, bears may travel 50 or more miles from their normal area.

Vaux’s Swifts: The migration has begun
From late August to early September, swifts gather at migratory roosts—which include chimneys and large hollow trees—before traveling to their winter homes in Central and South America. Look for large chimneys in urban areas to view the fall migration of the Vaux’s Swifts. In Portland, visit Chapman Elementary School. At the Oregon City High School’s large brick chimney, you can see thousands of birds inhabiting a single roost site. In Roseburg, look for evening flight displays especially at Fir Grove Park.

WMU 1B SELLS OUT OF ANTLERLESS DEER LICENSES
Wildlife Management Unit (WMU) 1B, covering a large portion of northwestern corner of Pennsylvania, has exhausted its entire allocation of 30,000 antlerless deer licenses as of today, announced Pennsylvania Game Commission Executive Director Carl G. Roe.

Severe drought conditions that continue to persist in northeastern Minnesota have prompted new fire restrictions from the Department of Natural Resources (DNR).
Until further notice, campfires and use of charcoal grills are banned or restricted in state parks, state forest recreation areas and waysides in Cook, Lake and St. Louis counties due to extremely high fire danger.

Total for day one was 100 Trout, 1 Red (many others released), 3 Spanish, and 8 Sheepshead. Total for day 2 was 75 Trout, 4 Reds, 4 Sheepshead, and 4 Spanish. It was two fun filled days on the water with some great guys.
