On October 6 some 450 racers and a 1,000-strong crowd will ascend on Chincoteague Bay at 9 a.m. for the 8th Annual Osprey Sprint Triathlon sponsored by the Coastal Bays Program.
The program’s largest annual fundraiser, the sprint distance triathlon includes a half-mile swim in Chincoteague Bay, a 15.2-mile bike course and a 3.1-mile run on the roads by Public Landing. The course meanders through the bucolic countryside of southern Worcester County across from Assateague Island.

FAIRFAX, Virginia — The National Rifle Association’s 45th National Police Shooting Championships (NPSC) will begin Monday at Shooting Range Park in Albuquerque, N.M.
More than 400 law enforcement officers from federal, state, municipal and private agencies, as well as five foreign countries, are expected to compete in this year’s tournament. The opening ceremony will take place at 7:30 a.m. with the Revolver 1500 portion of competition to follow. The Service Revolver match and Shotgun Championship will also take place. Matches are expected to run until 4 p.m.
