The 16 lakes originally scheduled for fall trout stocking during the week of October 8 have been rescheduled for October 24 and 25. The Division will continue to monitor conditions in these waters to ensure they are suitable for stocking.

An over-abundance of deer at Lake Carlos State Park and a low number of requests for special hunt permits for the park has prompted the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to extend the availability of special hunt permits to any hunters who have already purchased a valid 2A season license, a multi-zone buck license or an all-season deer license.

While the walleye population in Lake Mille Lacs remains healthy, it may be smaller than expected, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
This fact was discovered during recent routine test netting to monitor the size and abundance of walleye. The DNR reports near-shore test nets caught only half as many walleye as the long-term average from 1983-2006. Nets placed in deeper water also caught fewer walleye than previous years.

The 2007 bulls-only moose-hunting season in northeastern Minnesota ended Sunday Oct. 14. Hunters registered 115 bull moose at nine registration stations scattered across Cook, Lake and St. Louis counties over the 16-day season. This compares with 159 moose (bulls and cows) harvested in northeastern Minnesota in 2006, 163 in 2005, and 149 in 2004.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Grand Rapids area fisheries office has announced the dates for sport netting whitefish and cisco on area lakes.
The following lakes are open from the first Friday in November through the second Sunday in December (Nov. 2 through Dec. 9); Bass, Ball Club, Bowstring, Little Bowstring, Cut Foot Sioux, Deer (near Effie), Grave, Island (near Northome), Jessie, Little Jessie, Maple, Pokegama, Round (near Squaw Lake), Rush Island, Sand (near Max), Swan, Twin Lakes (near Marble), Winnibigoshish, and Little Winnibigoshish.
